Learning to Learn
In commmon with the rest of the school, and now the rest of the Borough and country, we don't just show students how to do tasks, but expect them to work independently, and to not give up when experiencing difficutlies. Having good learning habits is something that will help you in every subject, and for the rest of your life.
Students are becoming increasingly familiar with strategies for helping themselves, and learning a valuable life skill as well as some ICT. The pages here are a way that students can help themselves. In particular we are building up a series of video tutorials that show students how to perform a particular task, so they can keep watching them until they understand the process. Students also keep an ICT diary which they update at the end of every lesson.
Below are some comments from student work that highlight some of these strategies.
"I was resilient in this unit because I didn't give up when I was having difficulty using Dreamweaver and the teacher was busy helping somebody else in the class I kept trying and a lot of the time I actually succeeded in achieving what I would have asked the teacher to do for me." - Tom, Year 8

Created a DreamWeaver site and customised some of the templates. |
I accidently made all my changes on the ‘index’ page, instead of using the template. |
Change some colours in my template, and attempt to create a banner for my website using Adobe Fireworks. |

Exam Results 2008
Well done Year 11! We had a fantastic set of results over the summer which is a testament to the hard work of everyone involved.
Our A*-C pass rate was around 74% - a massive leap from previous years when students studied for Short Course ICT. The Award in Digital Applications is worth a full GCSE not half a GCSE as was the case with Short Course ICT.
A huge number of passes were at higher grades. Some people have been a bit confused by their results certificates which have a single letter next to them, as the course uses a different grading scheme to GCSEs. The table below shows how the DiDA grades translate to GCSE grades.
